History

The West Fort Ann Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. was established in 1967 by members of the community looking for closer fire protection. Before this date, the closest fire department was a little over 5 miles away, not too far in today’s standards of faster vehicles and up to date equipment. But too far away in the days of slow vehicles, phone alert method, etc. The company’s first truck was a 1938 GMC Darley pumper, and can be seen at the fire house still today.
